Our story
David August and Friends is a band made up of career musicians who perform familiar music and songs in new and exciting ways. The band emerged as David was arranging music for a church worship ensemble, taking Protestant hymns and original works and presenting them in a jazzy format. In no time, the band and the jazz arrangements became a hit! So excited, David couldn’t resist expanding repertoire by tinkering with and arranging more popular music. For the past several years, David August and Friends has been out and about performing original music, and rearranged songs of well loved artists such as Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, to name a few.
Each musician in the group is a soloist in his and her own right, and the arrangements leave plenty of room for improvisation. Sometimes funk, sometimes rock, sometimes reggae, sometimes bop, sometimes latin, sometimes country, but always a cool twist, the band covers it all. The full ensemble consists of piano, bass, drums, electric guitar, cello, sax, and vocals, all creating a broad, wonderful soundscape… warm, heartfelt, entertaining. A communal vibe at shows syncing the musicians and the audience, makes everyone feel something deep and personal is brewing. David August and Friends is truly a group not to be missed!
